An Open Letter To SNSC from Justin
I am writing a letter to the members of Summit Nordic Ski Club this evening to announce that at the end of the season I will be moving from Summit County. My time here has been wonderful. I have met some of the most fantastic people in the course of the nearly 3 seasons of being Head Coach, and have seen some of you/your children grow as athletes and people. For this, I can't imagine being more proud, and more thankful for that opportunity.
In July of 2007 I was working with a construction crew in Big Sky, MT wondering what my next step was going to be. I was watching the writing on the wall from inside the Subaru Factory Team, and knew that the system I had been racing in was nearing its end. That summer was also the fourth summer after I graduated from college, and at the end of college I told myself that I was going to give racing four years time to run its course. I was hoping to start World Cup races, and had my sights set on going as far as an Olympic Winter Games. Those dreams were close at times, but they weren't realized. I knew at that moment I had seen enough in skiing, coached enough, and learned enough from those experiences to know that it was time to begin teaching from my successes and my failures as an athlete - I wanted to find a group of skiers I could share that with.
At the time I didn't know where I was going or what I was going to do, but the position in Summit County opened. I sensed that I might make an impact if I looked at what I was doing as my one true job. With that in mind I landed here, and had the opportunity to work with you and your kids. The Masters Program was set in motion as a way to buy the things I knew I needed to run a successul program. That has grown leaps and bounds since, and this Club is now a representation of people from every age and many abilities.
The confidence you have all given me has been what I needed to make the decision to move forward, and begin learning again. I will not leave the ski world, and will cross paths with many of you in the future. I hope we have a chance to ski together on the trails that we have all come to love and respect. My door will always remain open to questions and ideas, and my ear will always be yours if you have questions about skiing or life in general. It has been a fantastic journey that will hold a special place in my heart, and I hope our time together has given you what you were looking for in return.
I will be here through the rest of this season, and committed 100% to the skiers who put trust in me to teach them. I am happy to explain what it is I am going to do, and more than open to talk about what keeps the wind in your sails. Again, it has been a distinct honor working with each and every one of you, and I am sure success is on the horizon for all of us - in skiing and beyond!
Most Sincerely,
Justin Easter
